The latest version of Skype for PCs, Macs and mobile devices allows users to record video calls useful if you want to capture a special moment with loved ones or document an important meeting with colleagues.

However, there are some ethical and legal issues to be considered. As soon as someone on a call starts recording, everyone in the call is notified that it's being recorded – whether on the desktop and mobile version.

The video of everyone on the chat and any shared screens are captured and the recording is then available to be saved locally or shared by anyone in the chat for the next 30 days.

However, it's wise not to rely solely on this notification, but to ask everyone for their consent before the recording begins, says Michael Terhaag, a lawyer in Germany.

Its updated in its offical website also.

How do I record my Skype calls?

Wish you could record your mom's face when you give her the big news? What about capturing your study group's deep discussions?  With the latest updates to Skype (version 8), we are currently rolling out the ability to record your Skype calls directly in the app.

Skype call recording is completely cloud-based so you don't need to worry about your device's performance or storage space as you record.

Key features of Skype call recording:

  • As soon as you start recording the Skype call, everyone in the call will be notified it's being recorded so there are no surprises.
  • If you are recording a video call, Skype will ensure everyone's video stream (including your own) is combined and recorded.
  • If someone shares their desktop screen during the call, it will also be included in the recording.
  • Once you stop the recording, end the call, or leave the group call, the recording will stop, and the final call recording will be posted on your behalf in the Skype chat in which the call took place.
  • The Skype call recording will be available in your chat for 30 days. You can download and save the recording locally at any time during the 30 days.
